Zora Howard performs Bi-Racial Hair at the 2006 Urban Word NYC Annual Teen Poetry Slam.

Theres another version of this video here: http://lab.wgbh.org/open-call/bi-racial-hair

This girl was only 13 when she wrote this, she’s simply incredible. If nothing else, read the bellow excerpt.

“I have biracial hair because I have biracial blood. I’m not talking about that cute ‘Daddy met a black woman and fell in love’ blood, I’m talking about that slave raped six times by the master, birthing six mixed babies, later hung blood. I’m talking about that cross-burning in the mud blood, and you call me a mudblood? Slit my wrists, and my blood does not excrete in black and white. I dream in verse and in red like what spilled from Emmett Till’s lips when he was killed for breaking down color lines. “

Saying ‘I notice you’re a nerd’ is like saying, ‘Hey, I notice that you’d rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you’d rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?’ In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even ‘lame’ is kind of lame. Saying ‘You’re lame’ is like saying ‘You walk with a limp.’ Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he’s done all right for himself.

The 10 Types of Crappy Interviewees – The Oatmeal

Job interviews are coming up soon, at least if things go well on jobmine….

Fan Girl Moment

From now on if I need inspiration or to feel something akin to understanding I’m just going to read pages of John Green quotes. I mean, that man has a talent with words that is glorious to behold, in addition to wit, humour and charm. I just had one of those moments where I wanted to share every single thing I read with a multitude of the people I care about. Not even in a “oh, look at this”, sort of way, more of an aggressive, shove it in their face and screech “don’t you see how good this is! do you even understand?”

I don’t have adequate words to describe this particular type of obsession (which only seems to posses me when it comes to literature – although a milder form comes in to play when I’m entrapped in other art forms.)

Anyway, there’s a few in my queue, and I’m sure they’ll be more with time. Something for everyone (including me) to look forward to.

sigh.

P.S. I really want to read looking for Alaska now. REALLY badly.

We slept in the same bed.
There was never a right time to say it.
It was always unnecessary.
The books in my father’s shed were sighing.
The sheets were rising and falling around me with Anna’s breathing.
I thought about waking her,
but it was unnecessary.
There would be other nights.
And how can you say I love you to someone you love?
I rolled onto my side and fell asleep next to her.
Here is the point of everything I have been trying to tell you…
It’s always necessary.
I love you.

There is beauty in these words

Pretty much the best ever. Man, I wish I could remember more quotes from last night.

“Well, as we all know..”
