Sun In An Empty Room – The Weakerthans
Now that the furniture’s returning to its goodwill home
With dishes and last week’s paper
Rumors and elections,
Crosswords, our unending wars
The black on our fingers smeared the ink on every door pulled shut
Now that the last month’s rent is scheming with the damage deposit
Take this moment to decide (sun in an empty room)
If we meant it, if we tried (sun in an empty room)
Or felt around for far too much (sun in an empty room)
For things that accidentally touched (sun in an empty room)
Hands that we nearly hold with pennies for the GST
The shoulders we lean our shoulders into on the subway, mutter an apology
The shins that we kick beneath the table, that reflexive cry
The faces we meet one awkward beat too long and terrified
Know the things we need to say (sun in an empty room)
We’d said already anyways (sun in an empty room)
By parallelograms of light (sun in an empty room)
On walls that we repainted white (sun in an empty room)
Sun in an empty room
Sun in an empty room
Sun in an empty room
Sun in an empty room
Sun in an empty room
Sun in an empty room
Sun in an empty room
Sun in an empty room
Take eight minutes and divide (sun in an empty room)
By ninety million lonely miles (sun in an empty room)
Watch the shadow cross the floor (sun in an empty room)
We don’t live here anymore (sun in an empty room)
I have never shook so much before in my life.
I know I broke my own damn rule but fuck.
theres no words.
Finals are fast approaching…
so I’m making another no tumblr/facebook pact. As much as I would love to be posting pictures of movember, prof quotes, the ridiculous antics of my my friends and looking at photos, liking/hearting things, reading poignant revelations, and in general be amused/inspired/shocked by the internet it simply cannot happen for the next while. A few minutes online now and then is fine by all means but seeing that I can’t seem to limit to that I’ll talk to you all around Christmas time – when I’ll hopefully post some creations and some ramblings on mixed up feelings. Oh yeah, for good measure I’ll toss xkcd, stumbleupon, the daily what, mlia, blogs other then tumblr and fml on to the no go list, in order to ensure true productivity. Games on the internet and off of phones are also prohibited. Postsecret, however, will still be allowed since that’ll be a nice 5 minute break on Sunday. Breaks will still be allowed but they will not be online.
Responsibility, oh joy.
Parameters. Setting them is good. (Except in Linear Algebra – then they’re just a pain)
Anyways, happy finals everyone!
Man Marries Dog of the Day: A Toowoomba resident named Joseph Guiso gathered his family and friends in The Garden City’s Laurel Bank Park to exchange vows with his true love: A five-year-old Labrador named Honey.
“You’re my best friend and you make every part of my day better,” Guido told his dog, as the officiant looked on. Apparently the newlyweds decided to take the plunge after stumbling across a wedding during an afternoon stroll through the park. “I said that could be us,” Guiso is quoted as saying. “She didn’t say anything so I took that as a yes.”
It’s official: This world is truly going to the dogs.

AND WE DIDN’T BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY SAID GAY MARRIAGE LEADS TO PEOPLE MARRYING THEIR PETS!!!
“She didn’t say anything so I took that as a yes.”
SHE DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING
WHAT AN UNUSUAL DOG SHE IS
I wish we could sometimes love the characters in real life as we love the characters in romances. There are a great many human souls whom we should accept more kindly, and even appreciate more clearly, if we simply thought of them as people in a story
G.K. Chesterton (via suzywire)
NO. We can. We do. This upsets me because I love stories but I love real life just as intensely. I mean, we all have bad days, but why save all your passion for make believe?
I am trying very hard not to take things personally. This does not come easily.
Some movies I really think you should watch:
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- The Princess Bride
- Almost Famous
- Whale Rider
Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through
Ira Glass (via Rabbit Write’s interview on Gala Darling)
This all sounds oddly familiar and comforting.
The Great Collapse – The Zolas
So free what you love cause it’s gonna die anyway.
Those golden days will be fossilized and we’ll scream
“Oh, back it up, back it up” but it’s not the same.
No, it’s enough just to say “I knew you well.”
