Yesterday I went to this lady’s workshop. It was fun, and good, but mostly I just liked her, because she was genuine and funny and quirky and nice and real. I think it’s something special to meet a performer who is excellent at what they do who is also relate-able as a human being. Her poetry ranges from humorous to insightful to deep to serious to light, and any combination (plus toss in an accordion). In a way it reminds me of hip hop, and my understanding of Slam poetry has become, poetry with flow, whether rhymes or some other sort of rhythm. And it’s like a current or a wave and it kind of washes over you and even if you don’t absorb it all it has impact, which when it’s good will sweep you away with it, until the words mean something.
