I would just like to mention I really appreciate all the support I’ve gotten recently. It feels really good to see that over 100 people, mostly strangers, liked something I made all by myself. I’m referring, of course, to my blog post about the dftba stamp I made, which has been featured with the tags #Crafts and #DIY. It really gave me a boost, and I can use as many boosts as I can get these days. It also makes me even more excited about creating stuff and sharing it on tumblr. 🙂
I know this tunnel will end with light
But I can’t see it, I can’t see it.
The Zolas, Body Ash
This is such a nostalgic song for me, first term, and the new music and new friends and new boys. Falling in love with this town and this university… It’s strange the quotes/words that I find comfort in these days, but just as visuals help me learn, imagery seems to calm me somewhat. Anyways, I love this song, and the whole album really.
Minute Physics – Shrodinger’s Cat
Seriously folks, check out this guys videos, his drawings are funny and he explains and clarifies common misunderstandings in a really great way. As I learn more science, it’s becoming more clear to me that there aren’t simple answers to many things, in fact, there aren’t really many answers, just the best models we can currently come up with. Sure, some of them are pretty steadfast, but science and understanding is always evolving at a startling rate. It’s quite exciting really.
TACKLE HUG
so here’s a drawing I did, of a couple of my webcomic characters.
It’s going to be part of a card eventually, and theres a reasonably high likelyhood of the person the card is for seeing this, but I liked it so much I had to show it.also, I’m definitely getting better at poses/positions of people. I could never have drawn anything remotely like this a year ago. I love it!
This is so good James!
YAY! Giraffe luff! Clearly took this picture on my crappy web cam while not sitting in a very upright position. Boss.
My results of my most recent doodle game! I’ve loved playing this ever since I was little. Basically, draw a scribble, or ideally convince someone else to draw one for you, and then try and turn it into a drawing using as many of those lines as possible. I like to flesh mine out. The easiest thing to draw is faces, something about our brains just makes finding faces in random shapes easy. However, I did manage to get one little sporty person in this round too!
How did you make that DFTBA stamp? :)
I use a Speedball Lino Cutter to make all my stamps. It’s sort of like an exacto knife with a thicker handle. I have a 3 different sizes of V-shaped tips, a U-shaped tip, and a Knife. I made the DFTBA stamp out of Lino, which comes in several varieties. The type I like is very similar to an eraser, just a little firmer. I actually also use erasers to make small stamps quite often.
As for the making of the stamp, I cut a piece of Lino that was approximately the size I wanted, and used a pencil to draw on the lettering (remembering to do the lettering backwards, so the stamp would be forwards.) Then I used the smallest V tip to trace around the letters and the larger sizes to cut as deep as I could around the letters. I actually intended them to be a bit thicker originally, but I accidentally cut into them a bit, so I just made them narrower. I switch between sizes quite a bit. I also test the stamp with an ink pad throughout making it, so I know what bits are making contact with the page that shouldn’t be, so I can carve deeper in those areas. That’s pretty much the gist. 🙂
That last quote from Jack Layton’s letter is everywhere, as it should be.
“My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.”
Really nice final words to our country from someone who really loved it.
Hopefully everyone’s listening.
Truly, truly, truly.
